What is Klearion?

Driven by a passion for clarity, directness, excellence, technicality, and creativity, Klearion's mission is to provide translation and localization services that empower businesses to connect with the Brazilian audience with messages that are authentic, effective, and perfectly natural.

The name is a combination of "clear" – in my view, a key aspect in the skillful use of language, and also a core value in my own approach to translation and life itself – and "ion", which is both my nickname (in certain languages where the "j" is pronounced as an "i") and a particle that transmits a "Greek word" and a "techy" vibe, which fits the brand tone. It represents my idea of highly skilled linguistic services that look to the future.

Klearion is a single-linguist brand – I handle all the translations myself.

Who?

Hi, I'm Jonathan. A native Brazilian who's passionate about language, communication, and especially the idea of being able to convey messages properly, faithfully, and effectively. 

My personal interests include badminton, fishkeeping, catkeeping, calisthenics and weightlifting, beard and hair care, and true crime. I also have a profound interest in philosophy, particularly the concept of justice, and theology, which also led me to study ancient Hebrew and Greek.

MCIL CL

I became a member of the Chartered Institute of Linguists (CIOL) in 2023, which was a great achievement for my career. I also became a chartered linguist by the same institute, which means I fulfill a series of requirements that show a high level of competence and skill. Master's Degree in Translation

I obtained my master's degree from the École Supérieure d'Interprètes et de Traducteurs (ESIT - Sorbonne Nouvelle University) in Economic, Editorial, and Technical Translation, which was a major step in my education. I also finished the program with an exceptional grade, being granted honors at my graduation (mention bien).

Brazilian Federal Institutions

I'm part of the selected group of translators working for several Brazilian federal institutions, such as the Ministry of Citizenship (MC), Council of Federal Justice (CJF), Superior Electoral Court (TSE), and Securities and Exchange Commission (CVM). I'm also the Brazilian Federal Court of Accounts' primary contracted linguist for English/Portuguese translations, effectively providing services as one of their Senior Language Specialists.

Bachelor's Degree in Law

I obtained my bachelor's degree in 2015 from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil, with a particular focus on the philosophy of law, political theory, and criminal law.

What is the Klearion approach to translation?

Translation is a writing process that goes beyond mere language shifting. Greatly influenced by the Interpretive Theory of Translation I learned at ESIT, my default approach prioritizes capturing the content's essence and conveying the intended meaning and purpose to the reader, going through cultural and contextual information. Rather than focusing on translating words, I act as your marketing representative or subject matter expert in Brazil. 


The result is a target text that is not only simple, natural, and idiomatic but also engaging and clear – while still being technical and precise, ensuring that your terminology, style, and guidelines are flawlessly followed. In essence, I offer the perfect approach to localizing your product and reaching your audience.

ISO 17100-compliant

Competence, excellence, and responsibility are among my core values as a professional. One of the ways I can show this is by following the ISO 17100 standards. This includes gathering some documentation and certifications extensively fulfilled by my years of experience and master's degree. It also includes investing in the use of professional translation tools and using them to ensure the client's style guide, terminology, and general guidelines are adequately followed. It also means taking special care to protect sensitive data and put security measures into place in my workflow. Finally, it also involves breaking down the translation process into a series of steps to ensure the final result meets high-quality standards. Whenever possible, I go through 3 (main) different stages:

3-Step Workflow

  1. Rough Translation: I create an initial draft of the entire document, capturing the general meaning of the source text. The focus of this stage is to produce a natural text, so no perfectionism here.

  2. Self-Revision: I meticulously revise the draft within the CAT tool, comparing the source and target segments to ensure accuracy and consistency. The focus here is to check whether all the information and nuances from the source text are accurately represented in the target text.

  3. Final Proofreading: After taking some time to rest and clear my mind, I go through a final proofreading, polishing the target text to correct and perfect it before delivery. The focus here is to improve readability, flow, and style while fixing any grammatical errors or word repetitions.

These are, of course, the main stages. Depending on the project, the workflow may include other prior steps (such as studying the content and other reference materials to gather relevant terminology) and final steps (such as performing a QA within the CAT tool, playing the content on video to check whether it fits the timeframes, and more).
